We can’t fight and win standing in the past

We can’t fight and win standing in the past. We may observe and reflect on Past thinking vs Present thinking vs Future thinking.
More we observe our thinking pattern; it goes towards the past. We don’t control what we are thinking, but we get scattered events and related thoughts and experiences.
Past can’t be controlled and can’t be touched. We also get feelings when we think about the past, and that is real. Most of the time, our mind takes us to memories that are ugly, sad, humiliating. We experience in our imagination, and we get all the natural feelings from memories again and again. We get engaged feeling those feelings and get drained, get exhausted for no reason that is real.
How can we turn around our directions? What is happening now, and what will happen in future near and far?
